The Conjuring (2013)

The film takes place in 1970, when a pair of paranormal researchers, Vera Farming and Patrick Wilson are called to the home of The Perrons. When supernatural entities begin to terrify the family of five daughters, all hell breaks loose in this twisted storyline as the home’s history is unearthed. Paranormal Activity (2007)

This is the story of how the lives of Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat are completely turned upside down after moving into their new home. It seems as if there is a spirit haunting them so they attempt to capture evidence of the creature on video. What happens next is terrifying as nobody is prepared for what is captured on film. If you watch this movie at home alone, chances are you won’t be getting much sleep afterwards!

Alien (1979)

After travelling into deep space for quite some time, the autopilot on the starship Nostrum picks up a distress signal and awakens it’s crew from cryo-sleep so they can investigate. Little do they know of the terror that is to be unleashed upon them, when the crew finds an alien species that gestates in the human body before hatching into it’s next demonic state of being. If you believe in aliens don’t watch this movie alone!

Funny Games (2007)

When a couple goes away for vacation, they are greeted and terrorized by two young men at their lakeside rental home. Arno Frisch and Frank Giering violently attack and abuse Susanne Lothar and Ulrich Mühe as the family is taken hostage, torchered and humiliated. You don’t want to watch this film at home if you’re alone, you’ll probably scare yourself silly the next time the doorbell rings!

[REC] (2007)

This thrilling film begins with a reporter and her cameraman recording some horrific events taking place. Manuela Velasco witnesses the outbreak of a terrifying disease that turns human beings into aggressive zombie like creatures who are hungry for humans. Kayako-Grudge-moviesThe Grudge (2004)

This movie is set in Tokyo where an American family encounters a supernatural ghost who curses, terrorizes and kills anyone it comes in contact with. William Mapother, Clea DuVall and Grace Zabriskie star in this horrific thriller, definitely a movie you don’t want to watch alone, unless you want nightmares for weeks on end!

The Ring (2002)

When an urban legend regarding a nightmarish video tape circulates a local community, one thing leads to another and before you know it everyone who has seem the tape mysteriously dies. Newspaper reporter Naomi Watts investigates the story and comes across the tape herself. What she finds when it’s her time to die is shocking, so we suggest a buddy watch this one with you, you’re both in for a scare!

When three film students take on the project of documenting the story of a local legendary murderer, they find more than they bargained for. While researching the case, Heather Donahue, Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams find themselves lost in the middle of what seems to be a haunted forest of evil with little promise of return. You wouldn’t want to watch this alone or the next camping trip might be too much to handle!

The Exorcist (1973)

This is one of the scariest horror movies ever made in my opinion. When a young girl (Linda Blair) begins acting strange, her worried mother (Ellen Burstyn) decides to find medical help for her. Little does she know of the evil demon that has possessed her daughter and the work required to perform an exorcism. The church is contacted when traditional medical treatment fails and expert priests are sent in to cast out the demon from the young girl’s body.

We hope you enjoyed this top 10 list of horror movies. I believe these are some of the best movies that are sure to scare the pants off you, especially if you decide to watch them alone. We suggest watching them with a friend, so at least there will be someone around to hear you scream.
